After he ran through his trust fund, Hughes started working with Monty Spencer, a member of 14th Street Mafia, and bankrolled his drug operation.
He had Paul Romano killed because he got greedy and Gabi as she was, along with her friend Sofia, a loose end because the two met with Paul earlier. He later handed Sofia over to Monty to be killed but Reese rescued her, broke into Hughes' penthouse and dangled him over the edge. He was later arrested by the police.
