Maple is a town in Upstate New York which Samaritan, under the name Carrow Manufacturing, usurped for its own purposes as a social experiment to gain better understanding human interactions, and ultimately became the manufacturing and testing grounds of neural implants designed to track and gather data as well as study humans on an electrochemical level.
In preparation for the silent takeover, Samaritan, through the Carrow Manufacturing, bought the soon-to-close textile company for which majority of its citizens worked, making the citizens grateful for the corporation that saved their jobs. Samaritan's agents displaced several of its high-powered individuals, specifically those who protested against Carrow (such as its mayor, police chief, and a doctor who was on the city council) and replaced them with unqualified people who would obey its orders without question.
After John Riley and Root, using her Alice Ginsburg alias, raided the town and factory in search of Sameen Shaw, Samaritan withdrew its operations in the town, approximately six months after it took over; the factory closed down, leaving the citizens to suffer, and recover, from the consequences of its experiment.
