"New York", recorded by Cat Power, is a two-minute adaptation of the song "New York, New York" featured in the Person of Interest episode “The Fix”. It is played at the end of the episode when Reese and Zoe Morgan part.
Originally written for the 1977 Martin Scorsese film "New York, New York", and sung by Liza Minelli, "New York, New York" became one of Frank Sinatra's signature late-career recordings, and an unofficial anthem for the city of New York. It is played annually following the dropping of the ball in Time Square on New Year's Eve, at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, at New York Mets games, and numerous other celebratory occasions. Minelli continued to perform the song throughout her live performance career, notably at the rededication of the Statue of Liberty, and remains closely associated with it as well. Curiously, although it is among the best known pieces of music written for a film, it was not nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song.
